Trust me, most of you will already have these three ingredients in your kitchen.
So I recently came across a reel, and it was an ex-Victoria Secret model talking about everything the company told them to do in prep for the show. She talked about some peculiar health and beauty hacks like drinking chia seeds and the strenuous dietary regimen which they had to abide by. I was like oh okay cool, thats interesting to know that maybe the long luscious hair they all had isn't just down to genetics. What really stood out to me though was the oatmeal and honey mask she mentioned, and said that she still uses to this day as a retired VS model because it was that good. I thought hmmm, lets test this out. Surely it can't be THAT good. I mean, I struggled with acne for years as a teenager and I am still reaping the effects of it through my hyper-pigmented skin and scarring. I have been trying masks for years now, and I have yet to find one that really makes my skin feel distinctively different after. Alas, in my sceptical state I decided to give this a go- I saw the recipe only needed three things: Oats, Honey and Water. I just so happened to be making oatmeal that morning so why not? Andddd that is the day my life changed.
When I was first putting this mask on honestly I did think 'What the heck? why am I slabbing chunks of oatmeal on my face', but after giving it a chance and letting it sit for an hour (Most people would probably do 10 minutes but I had the time of the day) I washed the mask off and my skin never looked nor felt so good. It was moisturising, but not in a gross, clammy and oily way- it simply made my skin feel like it was so hydrated but without the heaviness that normally comes with ultra hydrating serums. I called my mum and my skin spoke for itself. I didn't have to say a thing and she told me my skin was glowing. I instantly took selfies and posted them on my instagram story for my friends to see because I was that flabbergasted that the mere oats I was eating for breakfast had these magical healing properties. I ended up doing some research on why oats and honey are so amazing for the skin and found out that oats have been used for a long time to help sooth irritated skin for those with mild rashes and eczema. I also found out that honey is an amazing moisturiser, and that is has amazing anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. I don't know if it was the honey or the oats or both, but the combination just leaves your skin feeling so soft and clean.
Congratulations you made it through my two paragraph long word vomit on oats and honey.
So...without further ado here is the recipe:
OAT AND HONEY FACE MASK:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 tablespoon raw honey
Hot water (a splash by eye)
Directions:
Step 1. Blend the oats into a fine powder with a food processor or blender.
Step 2. Take the oat powder you have made and transfer it to a bowl that you will use to mix the mask in. Add the honey (I have heard raw honey is the best but I just used the runny Sainsbury's honey I had at the back of my draw)
Step 3. Add a splash of hot water to your liking. This step really depends on the consistency you want your mask to be. Personally, I make mine thick as I feel that it works better (but this is probably just me in my delusional head, and I don't think the consistency should make too much of a difference)

Step 4. Apply the mask to a freshly cleaned and dry face. Let the mask sit for as long as you would like. In general I have heard that the 10-20 minute mark is a suitable time. For me personally, I tend to wait for the mask to dry up, as it just makes me feel like I am getting the most out of it (again this could just be my delusion). When I do a mask I normally plan to work from home anyway so I can usually leave it on for as long as I want (in-fact as I am writing this I am wearing this mask recipe)
Step 5. Rinse off the mask with warm water (option to cleanse your face again here as well). Repeat 3 times a week, or however many times you would like/ feel necessary.
Step 6. Wallah! Your skin is now glowing and baby-soft.
Here is a before vs after of myself:

As you can see, its not going to be a huge difference after a single application. But, my skin is definitely glow-ier, and brighter in the after photo. I can also surely say that it felt tightened and softer.

Extra hacks, if you're still here (and interested)
Hack #1: Pre-batch blend your oats, it will save so much time and effort
This hack is pretty self explanatory. I pre-blended around 3-5 cups of whole oats and just put it in a reusable container. Back in the pantry this went.
It was my second time making the mask, and it kind of just felt a bit ridiculous to bring the whole blender out, make a right-old mess all over my kitchen counter to blend half a cup of oats. So I thought, why don't I just batch make my own oat flour. I mean, the rolled oats sit in the same place in my pantry anyway. Honestly, I didn't even have a pretty container either. I literally put my oat flower in the plastic Chinese takeout box from last night (obviously i double washed it first). It's not glamorous, nor glitzy but it works!
Hack #2: Use a silicone kitchen spatula as an applicator
This is a hack that I used because I was struggling to use my metal spoon to spread the mask mixture evenly on my face. I found that a bendable silicone spatula works pretty well in replacement of a skincare spatula. Here is a photo of the oat mixture and spatula I used:

That's it for today- have a great day everybody, and thank you for putting up with my forward approach to blogging. Until the next beauty hack!
Kisses from ur glow-up gal pal,
Miss Priss 💋
